Back Pain

For many people who suffer with back pain, they live in constant agony; finding a back pain relief remedy is probably important to you and whilst there isn't a cure as yet, some treatments can help sufferers. While there are a host of prescription medications that help with pain relief, many are doing nothing more than masking the symptoms instead of tackling the underlying cause of the pain.

Any type of medication should only be used with the supervision of a doctor but especially when it is taken on a regular basis. Back pain is often caused by muscle strains, repeated strenuous exercises and poor sitting posture.

It can also be caused if you are lifting heavy loads and usually characterized by a sharp pain to your lower back. However, a number of back pain relief treatments can be used without the need for drugs. Stretching the back is often the simplest method of relief, stretching your back gently can relax your back muscles preventing them from becoming tense.

On the other hand reflexology is an alternative medical practice. Pressure is applied to the feet to relieve pain in different parts of the body, it works very well in relieving back pain. Relaxing muscles and increasing the effectiveness of the circulatory system are two other reasons to use reflexology.

Although acupuncture is an age old Chinese medical practice that has been used for thousands of years, it is only recently that the Western world has accepted it as an alternative form of back pain relief. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the theory that all people have this energy which flows through them called 'chi' or 'qi'. Chi can become blocked but can be released by using thin needles inserted into various points on the body. There are large numbers of people that use acupuncture on a regular basis and claim it works well for them providing pain relief; especially those who have what is termed a chronic condition.

Another ancient oriental discipline, Tai Chi is similar to many types of Yoga but the movements are much slower and deliberate. Tai Chi is however very gentle and easily performed by young and older people. It focuses on breathing exercises with additional stretching movements.

A good preventative form of back pain relief is to actually exercise more regularly. This not only conditions the back but is an excellent preventative measure.
